Sometimes we are satisfied with the low turn-out at our annual depress-ins, even reading our failure to mobilize more people as a sign of success (people are so politically depressed that...). After all, it's hard enough getting out of bed in the morning, so it's understandable why people can't make it to our depress-in. But I have to confess that usually I am wishing for a mass movement of the politically depressed, immense numbers of bathrobe-wearing, despairing folks taking to the streets, disrupting business as usual, and demanding changes in the depression-generating ways in which we organize our economic and political systems. Maybe next year.
