Insensibility, Indolence, Indifference, Anesthesia: a state of not feeling that, because it's a state, is a _feeling _of not feeling. Apathy is a charge thrown against those whose affects seem indifferent and whose practices are directed away from rejuvenating the social and the political. It is deemed a failure of sociability, a sign of regression, depression, or immaturity. It is read as a broken circuit in the flows and floes of sociability, a failure of responsibility.
But what if it's an appropriate response to a world that is indifferent towards oneself? What if it's mimetic, a copy of that world in the photosensitive paper of the affects? We think of apathy as a hoard, not a vaccuum. A relation waiting to no longer be a defense.
